Frozen At Sea (FAS) fillets are naturally sourced from North Atlantic cod and haddock, which are caught, processed and frozen at sea within four hours of being caught.

This quick-freezing process helps to ‘lock-in’ the fresh quality and nutritional goodness of the fish, which are then distributed to fish and chip shops, restaurants and retailers throughout the UK.

FASFA boats fish in the deep, cold, clear waters of the North Atlantic around Norway, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, and the Barents Sea, where stocks are larger, thriving and closely managed. FAS fillets are caught in line with scientific and legislative recommendations for sustainable sourcing, so you can be assured that you can eat cod with a clear conscience.

The Benefits of FAS Fillets:

•  Consistently highest taste quality
•  Caught in well managed waters of Iceland, the North Atlantic and the Barents Sea
•  Filleted and frozen within four hours of being caught
•  FAS fillets are ‘fresher’ than variable ‘fresh’ wild and farmed stocks
•  Wild caught
•  Available in skin on, skinless and skinless boneless
•  No smell and minimal wastage
•  Superior quality to ‘double frozen imports’ and ‘farmed fish imports’
•  Not subject to seasonal availability due to adverse weather conditions
•  Prices are more consistent than fresh fillets
•  No preservatives or additives

Who uses FAS fish?

98% of UK fish and chip shops use FAS fillets. As FAS fish guarantees freshness and consistent quality, the same great taste is retained. Because FAS fillets have a longer shelf life than ‘fresh wet’ fish, this reduces food wastage, helping to benefit our industry commercially whilst also helping to address the key issue overfishing and the sustainable maintenance of fishing stocks.
