The baptism of the new Gadus takes place in the Faroe Islands

Congratulations to JFK Seafoods on the arrival of the new fishing vessel the Gadus. UK representatives, including FASFA Executive Director Julie Waites, had the privilege of being invited to the baptism of the new Gadus fishing vessel at the Port of Klaksvik in the Faroe Islands. This exclusive event took place on Sunday 15th October 2023, and it marked a significant milestone in the fishing industry of the region. Julie was joined by representatives from the National Federation of Fish Friers and Chippy Chat magazine, along with JFK UK suppliers.

The baptism ceremony was a significant moment for the Gadus fishing vessel, marking its official entry into the fleet. The vessel is 88 metres in length, has a beam of 18 metres, and her carrying capacity is 3086 T DWT. Turkey’s Tersan Shipyard Inc joined the celebrations during the delivery of NB1102 Gadus, it built for P/F JFK from the Faroe Islands.

The baptism ceremony was followed by a tour of the Gadus fishing vessel, allowing the guests to explore its advanced features and capabilities. The vessel has many highly efficient technical features and onboard facilities, ensuring the comfort and efficiency of the crew during their fishing expeditions.

In the evening we were invited to an exquisite dinner, where between each course we were treated to music, singing, and speeches. The format was unique to any other event we have attended and was really enjoyable. On behalf of the UK, Julie Waites, Andrew Crook, and Austen Dack said a few words to the guests, thanking Jogvan for his kind invitation to such a memorable event.

The new trawler will continue to deliver high-quality frozen-at-sea fillets of cod for the UK fish and chip shops.
